New chef/owner Edward Lee is continuing the tradition of creative cuisine and very fine wines begun by founder Ed Garber. Lee serves an ever-changing five-course prix fixe ($65 per person) that may include such dishes as duck rillettes in red pepper with artichoke coulis, foie gras napoleon, Capriole goat cheese salad with pumpkin-seed dressing, Kentucky bison tenderloin and roasted sea bass with garlic spinach. The famous mocha dacquoise is still a dessert fixture.

Good news for Louisville's serious food fiends: 610 Magnolia is once again open to the public for dinner. You no longer have to round up nine of your most well-heeled friends for what amounted to a private party. New chef/owner Edward Lee offers a five-course prix fixe three nights a week, whether you're solo or with a group.

For the better part of the past decade, 610 Magnolia (address as well as name) has operated under some special dining rules created by its founding chef/owner, Ed Garber: You had to have a party of at least 10, and the dinner (before wine) was $125 per person.

This is one of the best restaurants in the United States. Walled garden. Extensive reserve wine selection. You should make reservations. Your table, when booked, is yours for the entire evening. You are promised a fine dining experience rarely exceeded anywhere. Prix-fixe five-course dinners starting at $65. Menus change frequently based on the the freshest ingredients available. (New owner in Fall 2003 is Edward Lee who trained with 610 founding chef Ed Garber.)

Trust comes easily as the plates come from his tiny kitchen in Louisville, Kentucky. The six courses form a montage of foods as diverse as the chef himself. (Born in Brooklyn of Korean parents, he trained in New York and Europe.) His approach is new to the South yet takes us forward.
